Erdogan says to mull delivery, processing of Russian grain

ANKARA/MOSCOW, Mar 27 (PRIME) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin have discussed delivery of Russian grain to Turkey and processing of it into flour for further delivery to the poor countries, Erdogan said in a news conference on March 25 following a phone conversation with Putin.

“Being grateful for our mediation efforts in Ukraine, I heard from them that they are keeping an eye on the Turkish elections. They want us to deliver (Russian) grain to the poorest countries, and we will work on processing it into flour and delivering it to the poor African countries,” he said.

The Kremlin said in a statement that Erdogan welcomed Russia’s decision to prolong the Black Sea Grain Initiative for 60 days, while Erdogan’s office said in a statement that the Turkish leader thanked Putin for his positive attitude toward the deal.

The Kremlin also said that the two presidents were satisfied with the dynamics of economic relations between Russia and Turkey, including supplies of natural gas and construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant.
